No. Our probiotics are shelf stable and don’t need to be kept in the fridge.
What are the ingredients in the prebiotic and probiotic supplements?
PROBIOTIC CAPSULE INGREDIENTS:
Lactobacillus reuteri NCIMB 30242 3.5 billion CFU per capsule.
Other ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, vegetable capsule (hypromellose, titanium dioxide).
PREBIOTIC TABLET INGREDIENTS:
scFOS (Short-chain fructooligosaccharides) 600mg per tablet.
Other Ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, dicalcium phosphate, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, croscarmellose sodium and silicon dioxide.
Does this product contain scFOS?
Only our prebiotic tablets contain scFOS.
Our probiotic capsules do not contain scFOS.
Other products do not contain scFOS.
Should I take the combo or the probiotic only?
Our Microbiome Plus+ Gastrointestinal Combo (Probiotic L. Reuteri NCIMB 30242 & Prebiotic scFOS Fiber) may be more suitable for people who don’t have an issue with FODMAPs. Prebiotics act in synergy with probiotics.
The probiotic without the combo (Microbiome Plus+ Lactobacillus Reuteri NCIMB 30242) is without short-chain fructooligosaccharides (scFOS).
The probiotic included in our combo was researched in people with IBS, so it’s considered to be “IBS safe.”
Nonetheless, FODMAPs tend to cause problems in some people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
The probiotic only (without the prebiotic) may be more suitable for people who don’t tolerate FODMAPs (fermentable oligo-, di-, mono-saccharides and polyols).
Microbiome Plus+ Prebiotic scFOS Fiber is also available as a separate product. You can try adding it to the probiotic if you’re not sure what’s right for you.
If you have IBS or don’t tolerate FODMAPs, please talk to a doctor. Have in mind that this product is not a treatment for your condition.
Why do Microbiome Plus+ probiotics contain hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC)?
Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) is a food-grade, plant-based polymer. It’s used to encapsulate the probiotic in a vegan delayed-release capsule. This innovative technology helps live probiotics in our formulation resist stomach acid and reach the colon. Without HPMC, live probiotics would be killed by stomach acid.

Why do Microbiome Plus+ probiotics contain gellan gum? Is gellan gum safe?
Gellan gum is used as part of our microencapsulation technology. It’s added to enhance the viability of probiotics.
Gellan gum has been thoroughly researched for enhancing the delivery of live probiotics in various formulations. Please look up “Microencapsulation Improved Probiotics Survival During Gastric Transit.”
Gellan gum has been extensively studied, tested, and proven to be safe for use in food for over 30 years. Scientists even tested the safety of gellan gum mega doses that would never be used in food (pounds in one meal) and concluded that it was non-toxic.
Gellan gum is made using bacteria found in nature to ferment nutrients. It’s commonly added to many foods in small amounts (to create gels and add texture).
As with many components of food, such as lactose or gluten, some people may have individual or unique sensitivities.
The amount of gellan gum in our probiotic formulation is lower than that found in common foods.
Do Microbiome Plus+ probiotics contain live cultures?
Yes, our probiotics contain live cultures. They are third-party tested for quality.
Each capsule contains 3.5×10⁹ CFU of Lactobacillus Reuteri NCIMB 30242.
Independent peer-reviewed research has also validated this.
Can I ferment milk with this probiotic?
This is possible, but you would need to follow careful steps to start the fermentation process.
If you tried adding probiotic powder to milk and didn’t see any change, it’s not because the product doesn’t contain live bacteria. Not all Lactobacillus probiotics grow in milk the same way, and there are various scientific studies dedicated to the topic.
Our strain was specifically selected, developed, and grown in the lab without milk. That means it may need time to adapt to a dairy environment. Scientists tested this out. They showed that Lactobacillus reuteri NCIMB 30242 can ferment milk along with a yogurt starter, but its growth was limited.
For this reason, we recommend taking our probiotics as capsules. This ensures that you’ll get the dosage and formulation that was clinically researched.
But if you’re really into yogurt making, give this topic some in-depth research. You may want to Google “how to make lactobacillus reuteri yogurt” and run your own experiments. We can’t guarantee any results.
